Artist Meeting 12/2/08

Attended by:
-William Cooper
-Deb Stewart
-K. Cornelius
-Meg Cosgrove
-Kathy Sherin
-Nancy Thayer
-Chris Siano
-Scott Bye
-Roberto
-Val Dunne

1) We discussed the purpose of the monthly meetings; to sift through ideas of interest to BAS, updates on what artists are up to, and discuss items to bring to the board. This will give us the chance to discuss issues before they become a big deal.

2) An idea was brought forward to find a dedicated space to photograph artwork. We have the camera and the lighting, let's find a space for backdrop paper that can be retracted when not in use. Kathy Sherin will be speaking to a person interested in donating some photo equipment and will see if there is some backdrop items. Joining us later, Joanna suggested the education suite for the dedicated space.

3)I brought up the county funding- the EC legislature voted to change the county executive's give of $25,000 to $28,498. This is still subject to veto, but the $25,000 will stand if the veto goes through.

4) The upcoming Potluck and Holiday Party was discussed. The date is 12/14/08, 5pm. When Joanna joined us, she mentioned that she was bringing a big ham, beer and water. She suggests that the people in the "bread" category bring dinner rolls. She is also thinking of hiring some musical entertainment. Sounds like there is some big interest from the board. This sounds like it will turn out to be a good party.

5}Speaking of good parties, we talked about the opening. All attending agreed that it went well- that the entertainment by David Kane and K. Cornelius was a good addition. No one was particularly sold on the pre-party, but no one knew the sales $, so there was no final judgement. Over all, everyone was pleased on how smooth it went, and how well attended it was.

If I left anything important out, email buffaloartsstudio@gmail.com, and I'll be happy to add!
See you all at the Potluck on Sunday the 14th! Next Artist meeting is Wednesday, Jan.7th.

June 24th Meeting

Thanks to Nancy for taking notes!

A few of the notable things from tonight's meeting:
  • Potluck Dinner- Saturday, June 12 at the Mitchell cabin (directions to be emailed). We'll start around 2pm. A guest of any age can join. Dinner around 6, but come early to enjoy the beach!
  • Trimania was a huge success! We got the bills paid and socked a little away (for budget cuts and such). We are also building a well in Africa with water and coffee sales!
  • Dennis and I talked a bit about the NYFA MARK program. We are still pretty jazzed about all we experienced (I wrote a some on my other blog- click here). Kara had fun too- Kara- feel free to add comments....We also mentioned the NYFA website and how chock-full-of-opportunity it can be.
  • Chris Siano is now the 2nd artist representative on the BAS board of directors. YEA! Let's hear it for the new guy!
  • Kathy mentioned that it sounds like the Insite Gallery will be closing soon. Any ideas to keep it open will be appreciated by the owner.
  • Lots of BAS artist activity this summer. Chris will be on the Buffalo Homecoming Downtown Housing tour on Saturday. Brian Milbrand will be preforming at The Infringement Festival with the Reactionary Ensemble. I have some photos going up at Dolci on Elmwood, and perhaps during the Infringement Festival at El Museo. And Brian Hopkins and Kathy Sherin are both showing all over the place this summer (you can both add some of these many events in the comments)!
  • Joanna mentioned that there will be a website workshop at Squeaky Wheel soon....
  • I'm going to try and keep BAS artists and board of things on this blog. Send some comments this way to suggest content!
